In the summer of 2007, Jack Shepherd and Patrick Resing embarked on a road trip from New York City to Montreal. They had intended to visit Montreal's famous insectatorium, before heading west to the promised wonders of Toronto, Niagara Falls, and the vaunted Canadian countryside.
But when their wide-eyed hopes collided with the blind, exclusionist hatred of the Canadian Border Patrol—like two trains on the wrong track, flying apart in slow motion as metal rends metal and pure energy expands in every direction but forward—their Canadian dream became a nightmare, and their innocence, shattered, reformed to embody the unique horror of the outcast. The rejected.
After that we decided to check out New England instead, and had a great time driving through Vermont and New Hampshire and camping in Maine. We also did some filming. This is the story of our trip.
